Hart House Wedding Photographer

Hart House sits right on Deer Lake in Burnaby — a 1920s Tudor-revival manor with gardens that soften beautifully in late-afternoon light. It is one of my favourite places in the Lower Mainland to photograph a wedding. The grounds give you room to breathe, and the house itself gives you somewhere warm and characterful to go when the weather turns, which in this part of the world it sometimes does.

If you are getting married at Hart House, the lawn and the gardens are worth building a little time around. Twenty unhurried minutes between the ceremony and dinner is usually all it takes for the portraits people end up printing — the path down toward the lake, the trees along the edge of the lawn, the light coming through them.

How I photograph a day here

Mostly I stay out of the way. I photograph the day as it actually happens — the getting-ready mess, the people who laugh too loudly, the quiet minute you steal together before dinner.

For portraits I do step in. I will guide you through posing the whole way through, so you are never left standing there wondering what to do with your hands. That part is not optional and it is not extra; it is simply how I work.
